Drive in pallet racks allow forklift (or unmanned transport vehicles with forks) to enter the aisle to store and retrieve pallets. Forklifts need to enter the interior of the rack to store pallet except the pallet near the aisle. It is usually recommended within a depth of 7 pallet positions for single-sided aisle. To improve the operating speed of forklifts, guide rails can be added. The warehouse utilization rate can reach about 80%. Compared with selective pallet racks, the space utilization rate of storage capacity can increase by more than 30%. Drive in pallet rack have almost twice the storage capacity in the same space as selective pallet rack as less aisle quantity are needed.

The total depth of the rack in the wall area is generally controlled within 5 pallet depths, and the total depth of the rack that can be accessed from both sides in the middle area is generally controlled within 10 pallet depths to improve the efficiency and reliability of forklift access;
The stability of the drive in rack system is relatively weak among all types of racks, so the rack height should be no more than 10m.
